About Cavern Club
The Cavern Club is a legendary music venue on Mathew Street in Liverpool that opened in 1957 originally as a jazz-club, and over time became the epicenter of the city’s emerging rock and pop scene. Crucially, it was at the Cavern that The Beatles — John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and their early drummer Pete Best — made their debut under the new band name in 1961 and played an astonishing 292 times between 1961 and 1963. It’s in this cramped, sweaty cellar club that the band caught the attention of future manager Brian Epstein, launching their rise from local Liverpool group to global phenomenon. Over decades the Cavern changed hands, was closed and later rebuilt (using many of the original bricks), but retains its status as “the cradle of British pop music”—still drawing visitors, live bands, and Beatles devotees hoping to soak in the birthplace of rock history.
